Two arrested, 13 animals seized in Belfast animal cruelty investigation

The Belfast Police Department says two people were arrested and 13 animals were seized following a cruelty investigation.

Police received an animal welfare complaint at 37 Achorn Road in Belfast on October 13.

Investigators discovered several dogs and cats, with all showing signs of malnutrition and abuse.

Police seized the animals and brought them to veterinarian hospitals.

Friday, 24-year-old Kyrsta Sweetland of Belfast was arrested and charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty. The next day, 24-year-old Robert Debeck was also arrested and charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty.

Both are being held on $2,500 cash bail and scheduled to be arraigned December 1 in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast.

The case is still under investigation.
