One-eyed cat called Popeye rescued after serious injury on farm

Gables Dogs & Cats Home has welcomed a new resident in the form of Popeye, the one-eyed cat.

The battle scarred feline was left with an eye which was beyond repair and needed to be removed after he was badly injured whilst playing on a farm.

The Plymouth-based animal home was recently contacted by Filham Park Veterinary Clinic after they treated the feline.

Despite the pain he must have been in Popeye has been a star patient throughout all his treatment and the eye removal surgery at the vets.

He’s enjoyed lots of fuss from all the vet nurses and they all describe him as an "affectionate boy", and once Popeye is well enough he will be taken to Gables to finish his recovery and receive any further treatment he may need.

After he is fully recovered and fighting fit once more, Gables will find him a new loving forever home - although he needs to recover first.

Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: “When we heard about what happened to this sweet boy we had to help him right away. Sadly many farm cats are not given the same level of care as household cats, as they are sometimes left to fend for themselves.

"At only 7.5 years old, he has many years left to enjoy the comfort of a loving home.”
