Rabbits are not just for Easter

A rabbit rescue charity is reminding potential pet-owners that rabbits are not just for Easter as it closes its waiting list due to soaring demand.

Rabbit Residence Rescue, a charity based near Royston that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes rabbits, is calling on families not to buy their children a bunny as Easter draws closer.

The rescue currently has 70 rabbits on site with 125 on a waiting list to come in. The charity says that one of the most common reasons that rabbits are signed over, abandoned or sold on is a child in the household losing interest in their pet.

It adds that this is an increasing trend due to the pandemic, which saw people buying rabbits to keep children occupied while they were at home. Rabbit Residence Rescue has now had to close its waiting list due to overwhelming demand.
