Wildlife protection groups have petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect hippos under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The legal petition was filed by the Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International, Humane Society Legislative Fund and Center for Biological Diversity.

Police officers are investigating the death of a goshawk that was found in the Llanidloes area, Wales.

The body of the bird was discovered on Saturday, March 26, and its death is currently being treated as "unexplained".
