North East firefighters save almost 200 animals a year from emergency situations

Firefighters in the North East of England have been called out to rescue nearly 200 animals such as cats stuck up trees and farm animals trapped in water or mud.

In 2020-21 firefighters were called out to save 198 animals from a variety of predicaments, which is a 4 per cent increase on 190 the previous year, but lower than 213 in 2018-19.

Dudley Zoo have announced the birth of a second critically endangered Bornean orangutan at DZC within four weeks!

Eleven-year-old Sprout gave birth over the weekend, but unfortunately as an inexperienced mum has found first-time motherhood a little bit tough.


Gang of men kick pet chickens like footballs and swing them by feet in vile CCTV

A gang of men have been caught on camera swinging helpless chickens by their feet and ‘kicking them like footballs’ after breaking into a rural coop. The shocking incident took place on private land near Airdrie, Scotland, in the early hours of Tuesday, July 19, leaving the animals ‘absolutely terrified’.


Giant rabbits rescued from cramped allotment hutches

Dozens of giant rabbits thought to have been bred for their meat have been rescued from an allotment.

The RSPCA was called to the site in Ashington, Northumberland, on 11 July and found a number of cramped, dirty hutches containing 47 of the animals.
