Sheep rescued from Bridgewater Canal

A SHEEP was rescued from a canal.

Two firefighters, wearing special wet suits, went into the Bridgewater Canal at Red Brow Lane in Daresbury to lead the animal to safety.

Ancient woodland an hour from Belfast opens to public after 500 years

An ancient woodland an hour away from Belfast has opened to the public for the first time in more than 500 years.

The Woodland Trust conservation charity hopes Mourne Park will now become a popular visitor attraction, having bought 156 hectares of the 212 hectare site last year. It is currently raising funds to buy a further 46 hectares.


Isle of Wight woman dedicated to helping wild birds hangs up hat

AN ISLE of Wight woman dedicated to helping rehabilitate orphaned, sick and injured wild birds has hung up her hat due to ill-health. 

Kay Ounsworth, of IW Wild Bird Rehabilitation, which is known fondly as Mr Wally Awol and Friends, made the announcement this week.
